Steven Wiltshire - The Human Camera

Steven is autistic. He is flown over the city of Rome via helicopter and then draws the city from memory in incredible detail. This guy is absolutely amazing!

Thanks to Stacker for the tip on this one.

Rainman is not impressed. Seriously cool though. Could we say the "gift" of autism?

That's incredible. I like when they mention that they found some discrepencies in the dome but the number of columns was exact. That's incredible!

I am fascinated by the savant side of autism. Piano virtuosos and artists like this remind me that greatness can come out of what appears to be dire or sometimes hopeless circumstances.

Paul, thank you for posting this video.

Think how much more human freedom we all would celebrate if the Steven's of the world were not defined and confined by devastating "diagnoses" which are limiting by definition and confining by social implication. I shall remain grateful for Steven's -- and others' -- gifts in the meantime, and celebrate them all, in "spite" of their beautiful talents which fly in the face of western "convention!" Do they not turn the notions of value and judgment on their proverbial ears? Do they not reflect the shadow of our own human inepitude? Above all, Steven's talent is an invitation for us to look inward -- and remember that it was, ironically, the Romans who used to set children born with imperfections of any kind up on a hilltop for the buzzards to carry away -- we want no blights on the perfect culture, you see. Plastic surgery anyone???
