Tiger at the Open - Monday Playoff

Tiger Woods fought through the pain of recent surgery on his left knee to drain a birdie putt on the 18th hole of Torrey Pines, a course he has dominated in the past, to force an 18 hole playoff with cinderella story Rocco Mediate who has never been competitive in a major tournament.

I was in awe on Saturday as Tiger, wincing on most every shot, drained two bombs for eagle and chipped in for birdie. It was high drama. Sunday's round was quiet for the most part until the last putt of the last hole. Woods used a 60 degree wedge from 105 yards to get within 12 feet of the hole. After a careful read of the green, he stroked the putt which lipped around the back edge of the cup before dropping in in dramatic fashion.

Here's the final 7 minutes of NBC's coverage. It's worth watching even if you're not a fan of golf.

The first 9 of today's playoff will be broadcast on ESPN at noon. The back nine is scheduled for 2pm on NBC. I have the TIVO locked and loaded.

Thanks for posting that. I watched the playoff and was impressed with his strength despite his knee hesitation. Tiger is the best athlete I have ever seen.
